HAPPY NEW YEAR BLOGGERS!

Sorry I've been missing in action... life can get hectic sometimes...

So, what have I been up to? Let's see...

My failed attempt to a BQ in October left me very discouraged... but I signed up for the National Marathon here in DC in March. However, I'm pretty sure I'll switch to the half marathon, and you'll see why...

The day after Marine Corps I started a new job - and I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am with my new job! It's so nice to work for people that respect you, encourage you, give you productive criticism, and appreciate your work! I know I'm still in the "honeymoon" stage, but I can really see myself growing and having a fulfilling career where I am now.

With my new job and some other internal struggles, my classes suffered, and I fell behind big time on my online class. I took an incomplete and have to turn in some papers by February to get a passing grade. Thank goodness for understanding professors! The Spring semester starts January 23 and I'll be taking two classes, one on Mondays and one on Saturdays. Then I'll have one class in the summer and I'll be graduating finally! No more online classes for me, I'm just not cut out for that stuff, I like human interaction too much.

So, here come the big news... (no Burt, I'm not pregnant!) I'm buying a condo!!! I know it doesn't seem that big a deal and people do it all the time, but to me it's a HUGE event...  And I'm doing it all by my self! It's a great feeling of accomplishment. I just got so tired of my roommate mistreating me that I thought, I have to move out... I didn't think I could afford anything reasonable in this area, but I found a very cute, practically perfect condo in Arlington, near Shirlington, where I can see myself living... I'm very happy about that. Closing date is set for January 29, keep your fingers crossed so everything goes smoothly!

I don't want to be too overwhelmed training for a marathon, moving, buying furniture, and doing school work, that's why I'm going to switch to the half. I'm training with my friend Matt who is currently my neighbor but soon we may not be able to run together, which is sad, but I'm sure we'll figure out something.

Alright, I hope this is a good update for you all, I hope to catch up with the blogs soon but don't get too upset if I don't comment too often for a while...

Keep on running!

Lucia

HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS THINKING THAT???? How did you know? Well, that is exciting. Good to hear from ya, too.

Great to hear from you, and glad you're enjoying the new job. Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate at the moment, so good luck with it all, and (if you can find the time), we'd all love for you to keep us posted.

Run on, Run on, you running Rocket...

Welcome back Lucia! It's always good to read your blog. Sounds like your making some sensible decisions this year. You've got a lot going on and have modified some goals to suit. That will keep you running. I think Boston is still ahead for you when you're feeling ready. Congrats on your new job and becoming a home owner. I know what you're going through on losing a running partner. I just lost the one I've been running with for the past 7 months as she's moved to California. But keep running it will keep you in touch.

Welcome back Lucia! I can't wait to see the condo. I hope you have some time around February 17th-20th so I can come by and see it!

Hi Lucia - Congrats on a great decision to buy a condo. I've lived in Arlington for 9 years and I can tell you its a splendid place. Lots of great trails, very runner/biker friendly and car unfriendly roads. Since you said Shirlington, you're probably close to the 4 mile run trail. As for training partners, the Pacers store in Pentagon Row and Clarendon have good group runs every Tuesdays and Thursdays that you can check out. Let me know if you need more info about the area.

Thank you my friends!

Anand, thank you for the comments! I've been in the DC area for 6 years now, lived in Arlington for a few of those, so I'm pretty familiar with the area, but thank you for the tips anyway! Maybe we can meet up for a run or at a race sometime, we've got a few other bloggers in the area that are fun to hang out with as well.

I have the same problem with online classes. I actually have that problem with non-online classes as well...

Glad to see you are still at it. Life alway goes in crazy directions. Don't give up on your dreams, it took me 5 years before I finally BQed and then something just clicked. It will click for you too, but breaks from marathoning are a good thing too. Hope everything works out:)

Congratulations!! I hope all goes well with the closing and the move.

How exciting, Lucia! I just graduated in December and am finally done with school myself :D. I am out on the job scene now, but there are very few teaching jobs available so I am still at the bookstore, and subbing when I get called. I look forward to hearing about the condo and more stories of the new job! Maybe you can give us a "Story from a guzzler of the water cooler" every week? haha ambitious I know. Best of Luck!

It's been a week or so since this post, but I am so happy for you. DC is so expensive, and committing to a place to live is a big deal. You are a gusty, dedicated woman. I was sorry to hear you had such a hard time after the marathon--I can't imagine all the hard stuff combined together. You're right to take it in stride. Thanks for updating your running friends so we can cheer for you! So many wonderful changes and progress. You've worked hard, and been through a lot. So glad to hear your good news! Half Marathon's rock. Just enough to be a challenge, but not enough to ruin the rest of your life :)

We'll be here when you get back into "stride," get it - stride!!!

I am a month late on the update, but THANKS!!! I am so happy that things are going well for you! I hope the new job is still treating you GREAT, I pray the condo closing went down without a hitch, and best of luck to you with school and that half marathon!

Hey did you dig out of the blizzards yet? Or at least build a sick snow fort??

You are an even lousier blogger than I am. It's been over 4 months. I know you still run!
